Today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful vintage Reed & Barton silverplate lion head letter opener! Reed & Barton was a prominent American silversmith manufacturer based in the city of Taunton, Massachusetts, operating between 1824 and 2015. Its products include sterling silver and silverplate flatware. During the American Civil War, Reed & Barton produced a considerable quantity of weapons for Union Army soldiers and officers. This fabulous (and heavy!), Art Deco-style letter knife features the ferocious and mighty head of a lion set upon a wide and streamlined blade. The piece is marked on the bottom “Reed & Barton/296). Knife is in very good vintage condition, with minor wear/scuffing and tarnishing commensurate with age and type of use. No doubt will polish up to like new if you so choose. This handsome letter opener will make a fine addition to any desk and writing accoutrements collection. Fresh to the market!
