This piece of French Pillivuyt Porcelain is one of a very large collection we recently consigned from a local estate. Please see our other items for additional examples of this highly collectible cookware including casseroles decorated with quails, pheasants, hares, and mallards!
Today we are happy to offer for sale a charming covered casserole or tureen made by Pillivuyt & Cie Porcelaine in France. It is a covered dish which will go from the oven to the table, resembling a baked meat pie. This example bears the 3D likeness of a pheasant’s head and is sometimes described as a pate casserole. This is the largest size the company made, a #5. It is marked with an green stamped “PILLIVUYT FRANCE 762,” and an impressed “5”. The base is an unusual oval shape with pointed ends. This is sometimes referred to as majolica, but the painting is done in with a mat finish and the inside reveals a hard white porcelain base. There is a small vent hole in the lid to release steam. Casserole is in very good, vintage, pre-owned condition. No chips, cracks, repairs or other issues. Fresh to the market from a Rhode Island estate!
