Today we are pleased to offer for sale a lovely and whimsical vintage ladies fan! This delightful fan is intricately and finely hand-made and hand-painted! The fan features a mysterious and exotic black lacquer, red, and gold Chinoiserie/ Japonaiserie motif, with a red setting sun motif with a transposed scene of two geishas in a beautiful garden; the setting red sun is set on a black background with gilded foliage and a flying bird. A mostly worn-off scene on the ribs depicted nobles on a boat. The upper parts of the leaves feature a foliage motif painted on canvas with an ebony background. The reverse side of the fan is plain. The piece features a carrying string with a small Jade bead at the end, and the back of the second to last leaf is stamped “Palace Bazar Manila”, which was located in the Phillippines. The fan is in good vintage condition, with minor wear, patina, and loss to painted finish commensurate with age and fragility. This dainty and delicate piece will make a lovely addition to any antique vintage fan collection, and will add just the right amount of Chinoiserie/Japonaiserie to any room in your home or business. Fresh to the market!
