Here we have a matched c.1970’s size “8” wool blazer & skirt suit with sewn-in belt and shoulder pads, designed for Saks Fifth Avenue by the renowned Venezuelan-American fashion designer, Carolina Herrera. Saks Fifth Avenue, as you may be well aware, is an American luxury department store, with its main store located on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.
Though purported to be a luxury item, it is still surprising this particular “100% wool” suit is not suffocating or itchy in the slightest, likely for it being lined in a soothing silk-like material. The materials and care tags read, “100% wool,” and, “dry clean only,” respectively, offering no clues as to what this material is. Could it also be wool? Our guess is that it is a fine silk-rayon blend.
And perhaps equally surprising is this size “8” set is exceedingly flattering to figure and complexion, perhaps owing to the resilient inseams and high-grade yarn selections which cooperate well to present a subtly flattering cross-hatch basket-weave pattern across the main panels and limbs.
The matched, machine-woven skirt is nicely form-fitting at top (and overall), having an attached red belt. The belt and upper section are skimmed in a refined red wool material that is surprisingly soft and free-flowing.
Tags on this item read, “Carolina Herrera,” “Saks Fifth Avenue,” “100% Wool,” “Made in USA,” and “Dry Clean Only.”
Suit presents as scarcely worn with almost zero fuzziness in the knit sections, and otherwise appears to have no flaws!
Size “8.” …Our model is 5’8″ and 133lbs, and is clearly is ‘a little too much’ for this set-up! Though no seams were ripped, the appropriate h/w for this is likely closer to 5’3″-5’6″ and 119-126lbs. Hopefully you can infer from this whether the item(s) will fit you well.
