Today we are delighted to be offering for sale a gorgeous vintage Wallace “Romance of the Sea” 74-piece sterling silver service with NO MONOGRAMS! Wallace Silversmiths was founded in 1833 in Wallingford, CT, and is still in business! Wallace in the late 19th century grew to be the largest manufacturer of flat tableware in the world. At the start of the 20th century, about 3 tons of steel and 1.5 tons of nickel silver were used daily to produce luxury flatware. This lavish pattern, named “Romance of the Sea”, was introduced in 1950. The pattern is noted for its’ elegant and ornate Baroque decoration, with Rocaille shell motifs. This beautiful service of 74 pieces is crafted of fine 925 sterling silver; the pieces still shine and sparkle and have very little tarnish! The pieces are all marked on the back “Wallace Sterling / Romance of the Sea” and the filled handle items (knives and some serving utensils) are also marked “Wallace Stainless / Sterling Handle”. The total weight of the set without the filled handle items is 7 pounds! Quite a substantial service! The set is composed of the following pieces:

22 salad forks – 6-1/2″ length
12 teaspoons – 6″ in length
10 soup spoons – 6″ in length
12 dinner knives – 9″ in length
1 cake/pie server – 11-3/8″ in length
1 serving spoon – 8-5/8″ in length
1 slotted spoon – 8-1/2″ in length
1 cold meat serving fork – 8″ in length
1 sugar shell spoon – 6″ in length
1 master butter knife – 6-7/8″ in length
Set presents beautifully and is in very good vintage condition, with very minor wear/scuffing and tarnishing from being gently used.
