Today we excited to offer for sale a RARE and extremely hard-to-find pair of authentic and all-original Cadillac V-12/16 side-mount rear view mirrors! Cadillac is among the first automobile brands in the world, second in the United States only to fellow GM marque Buick. The firm was founded from the remnants of the Henry Ford Company in 1902. It was named after Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, who founded Detroit, Michigan. The Cadillac crest is based on his coat of arms. This gorgeous set of mirrors were expertly manufactured by the Doler-Zink Co. for Cadillac. The mirrors, model A-541, both feature chrome-plated bodies complete with mounting brackets and chains, and 5″ round mirrors. The back of the mirrors feature an undulating engraved design emblazoned with the Cadillac emblem. The mirrors were meant to be bolted onto spare tires on the V-12 or V-16 automobiles. The Cadillac V-12 was a top-of-the-line car that was manufactured by Cadillac from the 1931 through the 1937 model years. All were furnished with custom bodies, and the car was built in relatively small numbers. A total of 10,903 were made in the seven model years that the automobile was built, with the majority having been constructed in its inaugural year. It was Cadillac’s first, and is to date, Cadillac’s only standard production V-12powered car. The Cadillac V-16 (also known as the Cadillac Sixteen) was Cadillac’s top-of-the-line model from its January 1930 launch until 1940. The V16 powered car was a first in the United States, both extremely expensive and exclusive, with all chassis finished to custom order. Only 4076 were constructed in its 11-year run, with the majority built in its debut year before the Great Depression took strong hold. The onset of World War II reduced the sales, resulting in its demise. This wonderful and rare set of automobile mirrors present beautifully and are in very good antique condition, with minor surface wear, scuffing, oxidation, and patina commensurate with age. No chips or cracks. Mirrors sold in all original condition – ready for easy refurbishing if you’d even bother. This is a rare and hard-to-find pair of side-mount rear view mirrors from an iconic American car company that will make great addition for Rat Rods, or for any car or bike project in general. From a frozen in time New England garage. Fresh to the market!
