Today we are excited to offer for sale a rare and truly one-of-a-kind glass vase made by Bruce Chao for world-famous Dansk International Designs! Dansk was founded in 1954 by Martha and Ted Nierenberg, who along with Danish artist Jens Quistgaard, brought Scandinavian/Danish Modern to the United Stated creating a stir with some of the most popular accessories found in American homes. This beautiful hand-blow glass vase was made in 1982 by glass artist and RISD professor Bruce Chao, as a prototype commissioned by Dansk. Bruce Chao is a sculptor and teacher whose enthusiasm for experiencing translucency, elasticity in sculptural space, and ephemera, has been furthered by an abiding involvement with glass. Chao joined the Glass department faculty at RISD Rhode Island School of Design in 1982. This round and short-necked hand-blown vase features a thin blue swirl that ends in a circle. The rim is also blue. The simplicity and translucency of this piece give it a timeless look that is the epitome of Danish Modern. The vase is marked on the bottom “To Marti/To an old Providence Friend/B Chao 84/Production Prototype for Dansk 1982/PR of China”. In very good vintage condition, with very minimal wear and no chips or cracks. A fabulous piece for any collector of Dansk, RISD memorabilia, or Danish Modern glassware. Fresh to the market, this is a piece not to be missed!
