Today we are delighted to offer for sale a lovely and beautiful antique Carlsbad Austria 14-piece porcelain chocolate set!
Carlsbad is a city in Czechoslovakia, which was home to several fine porcelain factories that made export porcelain. Carlsbad or Karlsbad was a mark used on china made by several factories in Germany, Austria, and Bavaria.
This fine chocolate set is finely crafted and detailed. The set is composed of a rarely found round tray, chocolate pot, and all six cups with saucers, all done in the Austrian 19th century Rococo style, which favorited the combination of white and gold to accentuate the rocaille forms of the Rococo. The set features extensive gilded details with delicate pink floral accents. The set is adorned by a melange of cameo portraits of members of Royalty and nobility. The round tray features a center medallion portrait of Josephine, Viscountess of Beauharnais, Duchess of Navarre, and 19th century Empress Consort of the French. The chocolate cups all feature medallion portraits of earlier aristocrats from the royal court of Louis XVI. The pieces feature lovely rocaille-style handles, and are all marked on the bottom “Carlsbad China Austria”.
The chocolate set presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with very minimal wear/scuffing, loss to gilding, and patina commensurate with age and type of use. There are a few normal minute manufacturing flaws/unevenness to thickness of porcelain but remarkably no chips, cracks or repairs. This gracious chocolate set will make a wonderful addition to any fine porcelain collection! Fresh to the market!
