Today we are pleased to offer for sale a gorgeous and lovely antique Victorian cold painted porcelain plate! Cold painting porcelain was an elegant hobby that Victorian-era ladies took up as a past time; the women would hand-paint fired blank pieces such as vases and plates with their own personal designs.
This delightful plate features a center scene of a colorful purple/lavender/red/yellow bird, perched up on a purple-flowering tree branch. The center scene is framed by gilt and ebony borders with overlay gilded designs with red accents. The plate features a gilt bronze ormolu border. The piece is unmarked/unsigned. The color scheme is the epitome of high Victoriana. This plate might have been painted as a mourning gift to a relative of a deceased person. Note the black color and the ascending bird (to heaven). Plate presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age. There are minor losses to cold painted finish in isolated areas. No chips or cracks. This beautiful example of Victoriana decoration will make a fine addition to any 19th century porcelain collection, and will bring Victorian elegance to any interior.
