Today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful depression era 1930’s “The Big Little Book” set of four children’s books! The Big Little Books, first published during 1932 by the Whitman Publishing Company of Racine, Wisconsin, were small, compact books designed with a captioned illustration opposite each page of text. Over 1,300 Big Little Books were published! The books are beloved worldwide for its simple and easy-to-read format which usually displayed full-page black-and-white illustrations on the right side, facing the pages of text on the left. Stories were often related to radio programs (The Shadow), comic strips (The Gumps), children’s books (Uncle Wiggily), novels (John Carter of Mars) and movies (Bambi). This wonderful set of antique books is in good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age. Pages have toning from age. Cheser Gump book’s spine is slightly bent/distorted. Betty Boop book’s spine is partially coming apart; first few pages are loose. This Big Little Book set will make a great addition to any existing B.L.B. collection, and would be the perfect set to start a new collection! Fresh to the market!
