Today we are very thrilled to be offering for sale an absolutely vibrant, stunning, and RARE Qing dynasty Chinese export “Famille Jaune” vase! This piece is too beautiful for words! Expertly crafted and hand-painted in the late 19th century for the European market, this Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) piece is the epitome of “Chinoiserie”, the European fascination with all things Chinese. This gorgeous Mei Ping (plum shape) vase is the “Famille Jaune” (Yellow Family) due to its’ intense yellow background. Of special note is the fact that the top edge of the rim is finished and decorated. The vase is vividly hand-painted and hand-polychromed with allegorical figures of Chinese imperial court ladies and attendants frolicking through an exotic garden that is a cornucopia of beautiful colors! The court ladies are surrounded by a myriad of flowers and vegetation, including a flowering and towering cherry blossom tree, and the very rare Chinese Banana tree, a rare motif that is seldom seen in vases of this stature and magnitude. Large turquoise rock formations (Gonshi) are also visible, and form part of this wonderful fantasy Chinoiserie Mise-en-scène. The panoramic scene is framed by two famille rose borders with floral and phoenix motifs, and a top famille verte border with a floral medallion motif. This spectacular palace-sized vase looks like a piece that would be right at home at the fantastical Chinese Pavilion at Drottningholm Palace in Sweden. This out-of-this-world piece beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with very minimal display wear and patina, and some minor loss to finish around the bottom (most likely where vase was placed in a display base). There is one very tiny (and hard to notice) chip to a leaf near the bottom (see last photo). This absolutely fabulous vase will be THE conversation piece in any room in your home or business and will bring a smile to your face. Fresh from a gorgeous Providence East Side mansion decorated by a famous interior decorator! Fresh to the market!
