Today we are delighted to offer for sale a rather stunning vintage Japanese black Tokoname terra cotta vase! Tokoname ware refers to a type of Japanese pottery, stoneware, and ceramics produced in and around the municipality of Tokoname, Aichi, in central Japan. Tokoname was the location of one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan. This exotic vase features a cylindrical-shaped body, executed in graphite black ceramic. The vase is expertly executed and features an intricate, nearly three dimensional design of a flying dragon, with textured cloud background, and greek and rope-style borders above and below. The piece is stamped on the bottom “Made in Japan”. This rare and special vase presents very well and is in very good antique condition, with very minimal display wear and patina commensurate with age and type of use. There are no chips or cracks noted. A most wonderful piece that will add worldly sophistication to any fine Asian pottery collection out there. A special piece for a special buyer!
