Today we are thrilled to be offering for sale a wonderful and all-original American Folk Art carved wood statue! This truly beautiful and mesmerizing piece dates to the late 19th century and was expertly hand carved by New England artist F. Carter. The piece appears to be carved out of iron wood (or other type of dense, heavy hardwood); the wood is beautiful and has a wonderful time-earned patina! The statue depicts a nude female, holding her crossed arms beneath her chest. The young lady has long, cascading hair down her mid back. The maiden has a serene and pensive look on her face. The figure ends mid thigh and rests on an octagon-shape base. The piece is signed on the front left of the base “F. Carter”. On the left side of the young lady’s head is a secret compartment that can accessed by pulling out a sliver of wood to reveal the small compartment (see photos). One wonders what was hidden inside and what the story of this piece is … Very intriguing! This wonderful statue presents beautifully and in very good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age and type of use. There are a few stable, age-related cracks, chips, and minor flaking to wood in a few areas, all part of the antique and aged appeal of this piece. This is a fabulous opportunity to own a truly one-of-a-kind work of Art, and true piece of Americana folk art! This bust would look amazing in a modern interior as well as a traditional one. A special piece for a special buyer!
