Today we are happy to offer for sale a rare United States Liberty Head 1852 G$1 gold coin. James B. Longacre designed the Liberty Head gold dollar, which was the smallest coin the United States Mint has ever produced. Many of these tiny Liberty Head gold dollars would fall through pocket holes and get lost, and if you lost a buck back in the 1850s, you lost the equivalent of a good day’s wage or more. This uncirculated gold coin was graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. The coin is graded UNC Details/Artificial Toning (so they do not assign a numeric grade value to it but if they did it would be 63 or higher). Coin is graded by NGC as excellent uncirculated (UNC) condition which is a hard thing to find, in a professionally sealed slab case. We have no idea what artificial toning is but it just looks like a normal coin to us. Still it makes this otherwise very high value coin quite affordable. If the words “artificial toning” bother you, just cut it out of the slab. In any event you’ll know that NGC has confirmed it’s UNC details. This mid 19th century American coin will make an outstanding addition to any fine US coin collection. Fresh to the market!
