Here we have a wonderful mid century modern painting by the famed artist Byron Browne. He has 423 auction records on AskArt which is impressive indeed! This image depicts a nude woman in abstract form… a subject which the artist was well known for. Painted in the colors black and brown the medium is ink and watercolor.
According to the “sullivangoss” website:Goerge Byron Browne attended The National Academy of Design, New York City from 1924 to 1928. Browne was influenced by Cubism, Miro’s fluid feel and by Abstract Expressionism. He took part in the American Avant-Garde movement along with famous painters such as Bolotowsky, Greene, Gorky, and de Kooning. This painting is signed “Byron Browne” and is also dated August 10, 1961 meaning this painting was created merely months before his Christmas Day passing in 1961.
The piece comes professionally framed in a wooden frame that mixes black paint and gold gilt around the edges. Piece is in very good condition with no rips or tears. Frame shows a few very minor surface abrasions to the wood finish. Overall this piece is in great condition. Ready to unpack, hang, and enjoy!
