Today we are excited to offer for sale an awesome vintage Mack Truck Bulldog hood ornament! Mack Trucks, Inc., is an American truck manufacturing company and a former manufacturer of buses and trolley buses. Founded in 1900 as the Mack Brothers Company, it manufactured its first truck in 1907 and adopted its present name in 1922. The iconic and world famous Bulldog ornament was created in 1932 by Alfred F. Masury, Mack’s chief engineer. A medical issue had sidelined Masury, leaving him looking for something to do with his hands, and the answer was a carved bulldog. The figure ultimately became the model for the first patent on the infamous Mack bulldog radiator cap ornament, and appeared on the front of the Mack AB, a lighter-duty version of the AC truck. It was eventually mounted on the AC during its final year of production in 1938. The ornament has been used by the company ever since. This early and very cool piece is finely crafted of chrome-plated metal and molded like an imposing bulldog. The piece is marked “MACK/ Design patent 87931”. The ornament is in good vintage condition, with wear/oxidation and patina commensurate with age and type of use. Item sold as-is – ready for easy refurbishing. This is a great hood ornament for Rat Rods, or for any car or bike project in general. From a frozen in time New England garage. Fresh to the market!
