Carlisle & Finch WWI Search Light

DESCRIPTION: This is a a wonderful antique Carlisle & Finch carbon arc searchlight from the WWI period. Carlisle & Finch is a manufacturer of nautical equipment founded in 1893 in Cincinnati, Ohio, where, as of 2022, it still has its headquarters. The company’s main products through its entire history have been searchlights, mostly for marine applications. This large example, 28399, is a WWI marine searchlight based on the carbon arc principle. It is finely made and features a brass frame with cast iron and metal elements. It appears that most of its components are intact and original, including the concave mirrored reflector inside. The piece is marked inside with the manufacturer’s identification plaque. It is being sold untested. It can be electrified and used as a light fixture which would make an awesome accent in any bar or man cave. Very neat barn find from a local Providence, RI estate.

CONDITION: The item presents well and is in good antique condition, with wear and patina commensurate with age and type of use. It appears most components are intact and in place but be aware some parts may be missing. The piece is sold un-tested. The glass pane has some edge roughness and the reflector has a small flaw and minor foxing. Sold as-found so please review all photos before purchasing.
