Today we are offering for sale a beautiful set of eight coin silver spoons, recently acquired from the estate of a very old New England family. The teaspoons were made by George S. Tompkins of Newport and Providence, Rhode Island. This company, which manufactured silver goods for the wealthy upper class patrons, operated from 1816-34. The teaspoons feature the classic fiddle back design, and are expertly engraved with an extravagant “R P” in script. They are marked on the back of the handle “G.S. Tomkins”. These spoons measures 6″ in length, and 1 1/8″ in width; they weigh a total of 64.3 grams.
This very elegant and understated set of teaspoons will add WASP elegance to any setting it adorns. The refinement and understatement of the design indicates a level of taste and sophistication. This very early set of coin silver teaspoons is a part of our shared US heritage, and will be a great addition to any collection. Fresh to the market, this is a set not to be missed!
