Today we are pleased to offer for sale a beautiful pair of antique Emile Bruchon statement table lamps!
Émile Bruchon was a quintessential Belle Époque French decorative artist known for his lamps, clocks, and bronze statuettes. Throughout his works he often chose to depict historical or mythological figures, such as the title character of Falubert’s 1862 novel Salammbô. Bruchon’s work is characterized by finely detailed decorative motifs embedded in otherwise utilitarian objects. Little is known of his life, other than that he exhibited in Paris Salons during the 1880s, and that he was born in 1806 and died in 1895.
This elegant, ornate pair dates to the early 1900’s and is finely crafted and detailed. Each lamp features a signed, cast-metal Bruchon figure with lavish gilded and cold-painted detailing. The lamps depict a barefoot boy holding a loaf of bread and bouquet of flowers while merrily carrying his school bag, and a pretty barefoot girl carrying a wheat stack while reading a book. Both figures rest upon a neoclassical Louis XVI-style round pedestal base. The lamps feature a dramatic leafed canopy hung with clear crystal faceted spears and supported by a curved stem; inside each canopy is a candelabra-sized socket. The lamps are just gorgeous and sparkle and reflect light beautifully. Both signed at the base “Bruchon”.
Lamps present well and are in very good antique condition, with minor display wear and patina commensurate with age and use. There is minor surface wear and tarnish/oxidation and loss to gilded finish. Both lamps are in working condition. Some prisms are replacements, and some have minor fleabites. Boy lamp base has a small dent/crack on left side of base (not very noticeable). Please review all photos before purchasing.
