This magnificent minute masterpiece is intricately and expertly crafted and detailed. The pin is most likely a treasured brought back from the Grand Tour taken by wealthy Europeans throughout Continental Europe in the 19th century. The piece features a soft paste porcelain elongated octagon-shaped plaque meticulously hand-painted with microscopic detailing. The painted scene depicts a gondolier rowing a gondola through calm waters and a looming sunset; in the background is a large and elegant villa perched upon a high-wall with ornate gardens. On the boat are an old woman wearing an austere brown cape (perhaps she is a nun) and a lovely and beautiful young woman with a cheery disposition and wearing fine clothing. The sun appears to be rising in the distance. The plaque is inset in an ornate Baroque-style solid un-marked but jeweler tested 14k gold frame. Brooch presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with very minimal wear/scuffing and patina commensurate with age. Needle is slightly bent. Add Victorian elegance and style to any fine jewelry collection with this precious masterpiece…Fresh to the market!
