Pair 19thC Eagle Architectural Statues

Here we have a wonderful pair of stylized bronze architectural eagle statues, which based on their quality and character we date to sometime squarely in the 19th century. These ruggedly detailed statues depict two majestic eagles with their wings half-cocked in the air, as if poised and alert, ready to take off in pursuit of any would-be evil-doers. While they appear to be almost identical mark for mark, each of these two eagles are posed facing a different direction for optimal sentry-effectiveness. And since they were hand cast, they are possessed of other subtle differences.

They each feature 3 holes on the front between the talons, as well as a countersunk hole on the lower back tail, for mounting. We believe that these eagles were at one point intended for installation on a gate, perimeter, pediment, or furnishment – but judging from the lack of contusions or abrasions at or around these mounting holes, they likely were never installed.

Items appear to be in virtually flawless antique condition, undamaged and unrepaired with appropriate mild surface abrasions and patination consistent with true antiquity.
