Today we are happy to offer for sale a rare original 1930’s German Der Osterhas auf Reisen (The Easter Bunny on the Road) children’s book! This original book was published in the late 1920’s by Verlag von Levy & Müller (later: Herold-Verlag ) which was founded in Stuttgart in 1871 by Maximilian Levy and Wilhelm Müller. Initially without a certain programmatic direction, the publisher turned from 1895 mainly to the children and youth books. Between 1900 and 1945, the publishing house was one of the leading youth publication publishers in the German-speaking world.
The Easter-themed book was written by author Wolf Holst and features illustrations by Ernst Kutzer (1880-1965) who was an Austrian painter, graphic artist, author and picture book illustrator. The book features colorful illustrations of the Bunny’s travels through Germany.
The book presents well and is in good antique condition. The book was beautifully rebound with a maroon leather cover with gilt letters. Some pages have toning, tears, and small repairs. This great pre-war book will make a fine addition to any rare children’s book collection…Fresh to the market!
