Today we are pleased to offer for sale a fabulous antique French silver and glass wine ewer!

The magnificent ewer is the work of renowned “Maître Orfèvre’ (silversmith) Georges Bachelet.

The ewer features a very fine, un-signed Baccarat-quality bottle-shaped glass body. The glass is stunningly hand-etched with an ornate allegorical arabesque pattern with leafed swirls and sea monster grotesques, with a delicate floral bouquet etched beneath the spout. The level of fine detail on the glass is incredible. The piece features lavish .950 purity silver mounts, with a dramatic leafed curved handle attached to the body with delicate silver collars; the shapely spout and lid feature a vermeil gold-washed interior. The mounts are individually marked with the French hallmark Minerva 1st standard (.950 purity silver) and the inner part of the lid is marked with the Makers Mark for ‘Maître Orfèvre’ Georges Bachelet showing his two initials separated by a Pansy with a star above.

The ewer presents well and is in good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age. The silver mounts have some surface wear, tarnish and patina. The glass shows some signs of wear and light scuffing on the exterior, while the interior has minor cloudiness and old liquid residue. A 1″ crack is present on left side of neck right below the spout – this flaw does not detract from the beauty or use of of the piece and is not very noticeable due to the busy pattern on the glass. Sold as-found so please review all photos before purchasing.
