Today we are excited to offer for sale a rare, best-of-class, antique, Fenton, “Captive Rose” pattern, jewel-toned carnival glass candy rib edge bowl!
This pre-logo circa 1911 bowl is unmarked (as Fenton collectors know pieces of this era weren’t marked). The piece features the fabulous and sought-after tightly crimped “candy rib edge” (CRE) that collectors just love. The bowl features a rich, deep, peacock cobalt blue ground with “oil-slick” satin sheen. The eye-shocking iridescent finish features edge to edge multi colors of blues, purples, aquas, magentas, steely-lavenders, greens, old gold, etc. The fabulous and mesmerizing iridescence glows and changes colors as the bowl is viewed from different angles. The center of the bowl is accented by the textured “embroidered” look Captive Rose geometrical pattern. The multi-layered design includes a center rose interspersed with geometrical borders and terminating with a large border of blooming captive roses.
Bowl presents beautifully and is in excellent antique condition, with very minimal display wear and patina commensurate with age. Upon magnified inspection we found a microscopic (and hard to see with the naked eye) manufacturing flaw to the edge of one ruffle (if we didn’t mention it you’d likely never find it. You still might not). See last close-up photo. No damage found otherwise.
