Today we are delighted to offer for sale a wonderful and beautiful antique Trauffer carved wood Black Forest wild boar figurine!
“Black Forest” is a term used to describe the elaborate, realistic wood carvings that were originated in the Black Forest region of Bavaria, Germany, and were subsequently proliferated by the Trauffer family of Switzerland.
This piece is finely crafted and meticulously carved and detailed. The sculpture is executed in a soft and light wood and has all of the quality hallmarks of Black Forest wood-working. The boar is standing on a platform representing rocks and grasses. He has intricately carved fur, especially the mane, hooves and facial features. There is just the suggestion of the boar’s tusks. It is marked “Berne” on the back on the piece, where the famous Trauffer family of wood carvers has maintained a factory since 1938.
Figure presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with very minimal display wear and patina commensurate with age. No chips or cracks. This lovely and special wood figure will make a wonderful addition to any Black Forest art collection.
