Today we are delighted to offer for sale a beautiful antique Japanese Awaji pottery vase! Awaji pottery was made on the Japanese island of the same name between 1830 and 1939. Most of the pieces that we see here in the West were made sometime between the mid 1870’s when Awaji began exporting pottery, and the mid to late 1930’s when the last of the kilns closed. This classic and elegant vase is the epitome of fine Japanese style and craftsmanship.
The piece features a streamlined baluster-shaped pottery body glazed in beautiful teal/turquoise glaze with crackled under-layer. The glaze is brilliant in tone with fine translucency. The piece is stamped on the bottom with the maker’s mark. Vase presents beautifully and is in excellent antique condition, with minimal display wear and patina commensurate with age. No chips or cracks. This fine Awaji vase will make an outstanding addition to any Japanese and Asian pottery collection…Fresh to the market!
