Today we are excited to offer for sale this adorable Japanese carved boxwood mouse netsuke!
Netsuke were worn as part of the traditional Japanese men’s ensemble from the 17th century on. They were often carved from semi-precious materials or a hard wood, such as boxwood.
This delightful Nezumi (mouse) is intricately carved and detailed and depicts a sweet little mouse with its’ tail curled under. The mouse features minute glass-bead eyes. The piece is unsigned but the work of a talented animalier carver.
This piece presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with minimal display wear.
