Today we are delighted to offer for sale a wonderful antique Clodion Infant Bacchus and Attendants bronze figural group!
This beautiful antique bronze recast is signed “Clodion” on the lower right back. The piece is beautifully designed and finely crafted and detailed. Made of solid bronze, the sculpture has a wonderful black patinated finish and is composed of four separate pieces cast separately and attached together to form the whole (satyr, bacchus, putto, and base). The piece depicts the infant Bacchus and his two attendants (a baby putto and a baby satyr) feasting on wine and grapes. Bacchus holds a small tazza and a bunch of grapes. The putto kneels down while the satyr and Bacchus rest on tree trunks. The figures all rest on an oval rocky ground base.
The bronze’s detailing is truly beautiful and captures the lighthearted joyful spirit of rococo France.
Sculpture presents well and is in very good antique condition, with very minor display wear, scuffing and patina commensurate with age.
