A censer or incense burner is a vessel made for burning incense or perfume in some solid form. These vessels have been in use since ancient times in many cultures, in both secular and religious contexts. This wonderful antique Chinese censer is finely and intricately crafted and detailed of cast gilt brass/bronze. The piece features a round bowl shape center adorned with dragon handles and featuring a floral motif frieze. The body is supported by a tripod base composed of footed dragon caryatids. The reticulated lid features a floral arabesque motif and is topped by a wonderfully-detailed foo dog. The censer is stamped on the bottom. Censer presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with very minor display wear, tarnishing and patina commensurate with age.
