This is a hand-carved wooden replica of a carousel horse (decorative only, there is no way to sit on this piece) done in the shape of a pegasus (winged horse). Though not life-sized to an actual horse, this piece is nearly a 1:1 scale of a carousel horse (see dimensions below). It is incredibly detailed, from the beautifully accurate face to the individual feathers on the wings and waves of hair on the mane and tail. The legs are carved to make the pegasus look as if it is running. The workmanship on the legs and hooves is remarkable. The wings have been attached to the body with wooden pegs. The tail has been affixed with a screw for additional security.
Though this horse is older and has had some repairs (those legs are delicate!), this piece has stood the test of time and is just as wonderful as the day it was created. The horse is mounted on a brass metal carousel pole, which fits into a round black cast iron base. Though unsigned, this is clearly the work of a master craftsman who knew exactly what he or she was doing.
CONDITION: Horse is offered in very good, as-found vintage condition, with several smaller visible repairs and some minor dings and scratches. Inner wing has a hairline crack that does not affect the piece when viewed normally. Pole has minor wear and tape around the bottom for additional security in the round base.
