Description
Today we are excited to be offering for sale an antique and very wonderful 19th century folk art sign!
This fabulous and true and all-original hand-painted and hand-polychromed sign was made for Dr. O.B. Comfort of Bradford, PA.
Dr. Comfort was a well-respect doctor who was published in 1884 in the book “Items of Interest/The Dental Independent” by T.D. Welch from 1884. Dr. Comfort’s office was located at 52 Main St in downtown Bradford. The painted sign depicts a man laying on his back while an old-fashioned (and creepy!) dentist yanks the man’s tooth out with a pair of pliers! Yikes! Dr. Comfort promised a stress and pain-free procedure instead.
The sign reads “Teeth Extracted Without Pain – by – O. B. Comfort / Dentist”. The wood sign has a truly wonderful and mellow patina that is only acquired with age, with warm and vibrant colors and the wonderful look that comes with the passage of time.
The sign is in very good antique condition, with lovely and warm patina, and minor wear commensurate with age and type of use.
