Today we are delighted to offer for sale a beautiful piece of early Nippon porcelain made by the Morimura Brothers, the forerunner of the renowned Noritake Company. This piece dates to the early 20th century and is marked “Hand Painted Nippon,” as well as the M in a wreath old green back stamp. This is a large jar, intended to be used on the dining table during formal occasions to serve biscuits (cookies). The piece is hand decorated in pretty pink and maroon colored flowers with green and yellow leaves, with a shaded background in a rich brown color which fades to peach and then white. It is highlighted with gilt details in a band at the rim, throughout the flowers, the feet, another band on the edge of the lid an the handle for the lid. The jar is in a bulbous shape resting on three small feet. Jar and lid are in very good pre-owned condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is slight wear to the gilding in a few areas and on the stick like knob on the lid, all in keeping with the age and use.
