Description
Today we are delighted to offer for sale rare Mary Gregory green ruffle glass painted water pitcher! Mary Gregory (1856–1908) was an American artist known for her decoration of glass products at the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
This delightful pitcher is finely crafted of hand-blow green glass which is not but closely resembles vaseline/uranium glass. The pitcher features a round base with an ascending baluster-shaped paneled body. The pitcher features a fabulous ruffled top border accented with applied gilt border and blown glass applied curved handle. The front of the piece features a truly lovely painted scene of a young girl wearing a pretty dress gently releasing a delicate butterfly into the air. The girl stands in a rural setting with towering trees and gently-rolling hills in the background. The bottom of the pitcher shows the pontil mark from manufacture.
Pitcher presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with very minor display wear and patina commensurate with age. There is mild loss to gilding of edge of ruffled border. No chips or cracks.
