Manchester Silver Company was founded in Providence, RI (right in our backyard) in 1887 and produced high-end silver flatware. The company was in business until 1985. This elegant coffee service, pattern number 788/783, features a timeless and traditional streamlined colonial-inspired design with a plain body adorned with a simple thin border and streamlined arabesque handles. The set is elegantly monogrammed with a bold and fanciful letter “S”. The pieces are crafted of fine 925 sterling silver; pieces are hallmarked on the back with the Manchester mark and “Sterling”. The total weight of the set is 1588 grams (51 troy ounces). Quite a substantial service and a smart investment as it will always be “worth it’s weight in silver”! The set is composed of the following pieces: 1 large oval tray – 16-1/8″ in length, 12-5/8″ in depth 1 coffee pot – 9″ in height, 8-3/8″ in length, 4-3/4″ in depth 1 sugar – 5-5/8″ in length, 3-3/8″ in diameter, 3-1/4″ in height 1 creamer – 5″ in length, 3-1/2″ in diameter, 3-1/4″ in height Set presents beautifully and is in very good vintage condition, with surface wear/scuffing, tarnishing and patina commensurate with age and light use. There are a few small and light surface dings that can easily (and cheaply) be smoothed out by any jeweler: the tray has one small ding on its’ surface; sugar has a few very faint (and hard to notice) surface dings; creamer has two dings near spout; coffee pot has a ding on base of spout and handle is secure but rattles slightly. This coffee service will look great year-round with a wide range of tableware items and would also make a wonderful gift for the stylish host and hostess this holiday season!
