Description
Today we are excited to offer for sale a very rare vintage Legend Model A60 Series III guitar tube amp head! Legend Amplifiers were produced circa between 1978 and 1985 in Syracuse, NY. Legend has been considered one of the first boutique amplifier companies out there. They offered a wide variety of tube head-unit and combo amps and speaker cabinets. Some early models have the wicker-style front that early Mesa/Boogie amps feature. The G-50W and G-100W were probably their most popular series, and in 1984, the Model A Series III was introduced. By 1985 they had ceased production on all models and went out of business. These amps were favored by ZZ Top, Jethro Tull and The Outlaws. Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top used Legend amps exclusively while recording their iconic album Eliminator. The Legend amps are praised amongst players and collectors as some of the loudest amps made at the time. Here’s a little quip from the original owner of Legend from the tele forum:
“I was the original founder and President of Legend Musical Instruments. At the NAMM show I believe in 1980 Leo Fender told me that he thought we had the best guitar amplifier on the market. Not being aware at the time of the nature of his arrangement with Music Man, I told him that I thought the Music Man amp was very good. He told me, “They did it backwards”. (with the tube power and solid state output). He also said “He just rented them space” and had nothing to do with design or production of the Music Man amplifiers. He proceeded to tell me about why he sold Fender, that nobody had ever equaled or surpassed to that date the number of guitars and amps he was cranking out in 1965.”
This Legend Model A60 series III amp features a 60 watt guitar tube hybrid amp head, solid state power, and was handcrafted in Syracuse, NY. Amp presents beautifully and is in very good vintage, working condition, with minimal wear from light use. This amplifier is for a Legend on the stage. Don’t miss your chance to own this awesome vintage electric guitar amplifier! Fresh to the market!
