Today we are delighted to offer for sale a beautiful antique Chinese jade horse figure!
This exquisite piece is the creation of a highly-talented and creative artisan. The piece depicts a Ferghana Tang horse. He is wonderfully and beautifully carved out of jade, with fine and crisp detailing. The horse has a serene facial expression and carries an ornate ceremonial saddle. The jade is of beautiful coloring and translucency. Ferghana horses were one of China’s earliest major imports, originating in an area in Central Asia. These horses, as depicted in Tang dynasty tomb figures in earthenware, “resemble the animals on the golden medal of Eucratides, King of Bactria. The figure also features a bespoke carved wood stand of organic root form.
Figure and stand both present beautifully and are in very good antique condition, with minimal display wear and patina commensurate with age. There is a very small fleabite/carving flaw to tip of left ear. No other chips or cracks. Please review all photos before purchasing.
What a wonderful addition to any fine and well-curated Asian art collection…Fresh to the market!
