Description
Today we are delighted to offer for sale a fabulous antique Wilhelm Schiller 19th century majolica figural vase!
This beautiful vase is the epitome of Schiller’s artistry and craftsmanship. The piece is finely crafted and detailed. The vase is made of majolica pottery, in a aesthetic early Art Nouveau neoclassical style. The vase features a square-shaped base, with ornate relief geometrical floral decoration adorned with the figural representation of the angel Gabriel gently carrying two babies. This gentle archangel watches over children at all times and guides them back when they stray from the path. The top and neck of the vase feature ornate floral and geometrical decorations, with applied arabesque handles. The top features a pie-crust border, with lovely apple green interior. The vase is glazed in a multitude of warn and dark colors, with a brown, green, yellow, and black color scheme. The piece is stamped on the bottom “W S & S 315”.
The vase presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with minor display wear and patina commensurate with age. There is an insignificant (and hard to see) chip on corner of the base; and a minor fleabite chips to bottom edge; bottom tip of one handle has a small chip. None of these minor defects (so unavoidable with old majolica) detract from the beauty of this rare and wonderful piece. Most folks will never even notice them.
