TITLE: Antique Dutch Sterling Silver Articulated Windmill Figural Ceremonial Wager Cup

DESCRIPTION: Rare and unique antique Dutch figural wager cup. Originating in Germany in the 16th Century, the wager cup is a drinking vessel intended for use at a wedding ceremony, and was also used for drinking games in Victorian England. This exquisite Dutch example dates to the 19th century and is crafted of hallmarked (faint mark – was acid tested) sterling silver. The cup is shaped like a traditional Dutch windmill and features a mill house with stair, flag and pole, rotor, all supported by a putti standing atop the floral repousse wager cup. Of note are the moving flag and rotor in the windmill.

CONDITION: The cup presents well and is in good antique condition, with wear, tarnish, scuffing and patina commensurate with age. There are a few minor distortions on the windmill, and along edges of cup. Please review all photos before purchasing.
