Here we have a vintage 1981 limited edition Speciality Records Corporation commemorative coin, made by the Franklin Mint. Speciality Records Corp. is a now defunct pressing plant/manufacturer which was located in Olyphant, PA, founded in 1946. They were at one point one of the biggest vinyl pressing plants in the world. Warner Communications Inc purchased Speciality in 1978 along with Allied Record Company in 1979 to form WEA Manufacturing Inc. WEA operated the pressing plant under the Specialty name until the plant was officially renamed WEA Mfg. Olyphant at the end of 1996.
Item comes in original box, and is presented in a clear acrylic case that can be slid open to access the copper or copper-like coin. The acrylic case slides into a black plastic base that stands up the item. The coin reads, “Speciality Records Corporation October 17,1981,” on the front side and, “A Division of WEA Manufacturing Inc. A Warner Communications Company,” on the back side. Underneath the coin is a small grey plaque that reads, “Speciality Records Corporation Limited Edition Struck At The Franklin Mint.”
Item presents nicely and is in complete condition. Acrylic case shows some mild surface imperfections, consistent with age and occsional handling.
