Here we have a beautiful antique c.1900’s Austrian “oil-spot” pattern bowl made by Loetz Glass, founded in 1858. This crimped-rim green-glass bowl has floral art nouveau overtones and a shimmering oil-spot surface which when held to light and moved around, changes colors adding iridescent violet and indigo highlights, like oil in the water. The legacy of Loetz Glass has been praised by collectics.com as,
“…fine art glass expressing the vitality and creativity of a most exciting time in the decorative arts.”
No chips, gouges, cracks or repairs. Bubbles showing are expected, and typical of hand-blown glassmaking. The bowl shows some negligible surface abrasions on the inside and outside bottom, as well as a handful on the outside surface of the bowl, consistent with a century of careful handling and use.
Dimensions: 3&5/16″h x 7&11/16″ dia.
