Today we are very excited to be offering for sale a very rare and absolutely fabulous over-the-top vintage Japanese Moriage Kutani Dragonware ceramic planter! This stunning handcrafted masterpiece looks like a piece right out of the famous Indo-Saracenic-Chinoiserie-Japonaiserie Brighton Pavilion palace in England! Expertly molded and executed, this ornate jardiniere planter features a plethora of bright and vivid colors (mocha browns, orange, yellow, green, gold, sky blue), all polychromed by hand. The raised enamels give this piece texture and vitality. The contrast of the intense colors and the bright gilding make this piece a kitschy piece of pop art! This fun and humerously gaudy planter features dragon handles; the center scenes depicts Japanese elders and a court lady/empress in the middle. The base of the planter features a sea creature in a bright yellow shell and it terminates in ondulating scrolls. The interior of the piece was cold-painted a long time ago; some of the paint has worn off. The bottom is marked “hand paint/ TT/ made in Japan”. The cachepot vase is in very good vintage condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age and type of use, and a few fleabite chips. A small part of the horn in one of the dragons is broken off (hardly noticeable, especially if you put a plant in vase). A wonderful, if not a bit garish, and irreverent piece that will be THE conversation piece in any room in your home or business! Fresh to the market…This one won’t last long, get it while you can!
