Description
Today we are happy to offer for sale this lovely large Audubon print titled “Hutchins’s Barnacle Goose, No. 56. Plate CCXXVI”.
Struck from the original Havell engraving to commemorate the 75th Anniversary Meeting of the American Ornithologists’ Union, held at the American Museum of Natural History, New York, in October, 1958. This large print measures 27″ w x 33″ h and is framed behind glass in a simple black wood frame. The notations on the print read “Drawn from Natue by J. J. Audubon, FRS FLS, Hutchin’s Barnacle Goose, Anser Hutchins II, Rich & Swain. Engraved, Printed & Coloured by R. Havell, London, 1835,” as well as the information about the Ornithologists’ Meeting.
This is an actual impressed print, with the plate impressed lines clearly visible on all four sides as well as the annotation at the bottom.
Print is in good condition, framed behind glass. There are a few black vertical lines on the print near the bird’s lower body and legs which we believe are part of the print rather than defects. There is some rippling of the paper & some slight discoloration commensurate with age. This is a wonderful and rare find for the collector of art prints, lover of Audubon-type bird prints, or lover of birds.
