DESCRIPTION: Today we are delighted to offer for sale a beautiful antique late 19th century Frank Convers Mathewson oil on canvas painting!
Frank Convers Mathewson (1862 – 1941) was a Rhode Island painter was known for floral landscape, marine and still lives. He was a member of many art organizations including the Salmagundi Club and the Chicago Water Color Club. A one-time President of the Providence Water Color Club as well as an artist-member of the Providence Art Club. He was also a member of the New York Watercolor Club, the American Watercolor Society, and the North Shore Art Association.
This stunning and colorful painting features a delicate bouquet of Nova Scotia poppies places in a simple pot against a chiaroscuro background. The painting features vivid and bright colors and is mounted in an elegant giltwood frame. The piece is signed on the lower right “F C Mathewson 1897 and signed on lower left: “Novia Scotia Poppies.” There is a label on the back of the stretcher that says “Tilden-Thurber Company Providence, Rhode Island.”. Painting is ready to hang and be enjoyed!
CONDITION: The painting presents well and is in very good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age. The painting’s surface is in very good condition aside from a small scuffed area near the middle lower edge; other than that no other damage, repairs or restorations have been noted. The frame has wear and patina, minor loss to gilding commensurate with age. Please review all photos prior to purchase.
