Constructed of sturdy hardwoods and boasting a spacious dovetailed drawer with decorative brass pull, this console table is a rare example of antique carpentry: it simply can’t go unnoticed. Item: Antique “Indonesian” Console TableSoutheast Asian styling c. late 1800’sUnsigned, possibly Indonesian in originconstructed of solid hardwoodsthough we are not wood grain specialists, we strongly suspect this to be constructed largely of “Rhodesian Teak”, an extraordinarily hard & heavy wood native to Southeast Africa, an area with established trade ties to Southeast Asiastylishly carved ‘scroll’ supports & stretcherslarge crosshatch bas relief, or frieze, pattern45&5/16″ length x 28&3/8″ width x 34″ height, overall29&1/2″ length x 23&3/8″ width, at base22&1/2″ length x 17&3/4″ width x 3&1/2″ heightoverall weight 113 lbs (51 kg)note the considerable weight, given the relatively small amount of wood employed, overall, due to the extraordinary density of the woods used!
Item is fully functional, and in Excellent-minus Antique Condition. Downgrade to “-minus” for some loss to the carved lunette design on the front stretcher’s right side facing, and that the top appears to have been patched long ago (please see images).
