Today we are pleased to offer a lovely Victorian antique silver mesh evening bag. We believe this piece is silver plated but not marked as to materials used. It is a square shape with an envelope closure finished with an engraved cartouche and a hinged clasp which closes over a button with a blue cabechon stone. There are two tassels at each side of the bag finished with dangling balls; the bottom edge of the bag is trimmed with triangular drops and the same balls. The bag has a decorative metal strap with a 6 1/2″ drop. The bag is lined with off-white silk. The measurements are 5 x 5 3/4″. This bag is in very good, antique, original condition. There is a silver bar across the inside of the bag which needs to be reattached with a stitch or two. Silver finish is tarnished. Inside silk lining is deteriorating, mainly at the top crease where the bag folds over and the bar crosses the fabric. Fresh to the market from an old Rhode Island estate.
