Today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful antique early mohair teddy bear that looks remarkably similar to the more recent Paddington Bear. Likely, antique bears like this one provided inspiration for the creation of the Paddington bear. This sweet and cuddly creature is wonderfully crafted and detailed. Although un-marked, the pieces bears resemblance in quality, craftsmanship, and construction with bears made by renowned makers Schuco and Steiff. The bear features red mohair fur head and hands, cloth body and khaki feet, with brown stitched mouth and nose, and applied amber and black glass eyes. He wears a dark green canvas jacket with Nautical-themed bottom and brown slacks. This delightful early teddy is in remarkable shape given his age and was no doubt a treasured possession cherished by a lucky child long ago. Teddy bear presents well and is in good antique condition, with wear and patina commensurate with age. There is minor scattered loss to mohair. Canvas jacket has scattered losses to finish. Khaki feet have minor spots/stains. This great antique bear will make a fine addition to any antique teddy bear collection. Fresh to the market!
