Today we are excited to offer for sale a wonderful antique Japanese cast bronze statue of the Lucky God Fukurokuju. In Japan, Fukurokuju (福禄寿) (from Japanese fuku, “happiness”; roku, “wealth”; and ju, “longevity”) is one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Japanese mythology. It has been theorized that he is a Japanese assimilation of the Chinese Three Star Gods (Fulushou) embodied in one deity. Expertly and intricately cast and detailed, this exquisite bronze features a warm and mellow patinated surfaced with a multitude of precise incised designs. The face and hands of Fukurokuju are well detailed as well. The piece is unsigned but clearly the work of a master bronze artist. The figure presents very well and in in very good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age. There are stable splits along the sides of the sleeves, they occur during the casting process and do not detract from the beauty of the piece. This special piece will bring scholarly refinement to any fine Japanese bronze collection, and will bring good luck to your home or business! Fresh to the market!
