Today we are happy to offer for sale a fabulous piece of antique Native American bead work. This is a large “pillow” in the shape of a 6 pointed star. The central design is worked on bright red fabric and features a compelling depiction of a bird on a branch surrounded by leaves and flowers. This bead work is almost 3 dimensional — it seems to have been done in thick rolled pieces and then affixed to the fabric. Each point of the star is also heavily beaded with rows of clear, blue, and green beads in the shape of a chevrons or leaves. Three of the points have large loops of beads; three are missing. The entire piece is finished by hand with a stripe of gold cotton fabric edged with small loops of clear/white beads. The pillow is missing the backing — actually it’s there but in threads, it is not longer “stuffed”. This piece will need to be replaced if the new owner wishes it to be a pillow. Piece is in good, antique, pre-owned condition. Item sold as-found. This is an amazing piece of Americana and would be a centerpiece to any Native bead work collection. Fresh to the market from a Rhode Island estate!
