Today we are delighted to offer for sale a lovely antique French Art Deco period figural lamp! This fabulous and iconic piece is the epitome of high style French Art Deco design and craftsmanship! Visually stunning, this lamp has the foundry stamp: Fabrication Française foundry from Paris. The lamp features a finely and intricately cast and detailed figural group of a Pierrot and Pierrette. Pierrot is a stock character of pantomime and commedia dell’arte whose origins are in the late seventeenth-century Italian troupe of players performing in Paris and known as the Comédie-Italienne; the name is a diminutive of Pierre, via the suffix -ot. The pierrot and pierrette are dressed in Art Deco attire and flirtatiously gaze at each other; the pierrette holds a large fan in her left hand. The figures surmount an Art Deco torchiere pedestal base, topped with a ribbed and abstract-textured frosted globe. The figural group rests on a stepped marble base; the first layer is Rouge Royal red marble, the bottom layer is Nero Portoro black marble. The pierrette figure is emblazoned with the “Fabrication Française – Paris – Made in France” stamp. The lamp features a vintage bakelite switch and plug. The lamp presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with very minor display wear and patina commensurate with age. The base of the glass globe (the hidden part) has a few tiny fleabite chips. The figures are slightly off center from marble base. There are a few naturally-occurring fleabite chips to edges of top layer of marble base. Lamp is in working condition. This is a truly wonderful opportunity to own a RARE and hard-to-find fabulous and substantial Art Deco period lamp!
