Today we are happy to offer for sale a beautiful antique primitive walnut burl inlaid tray. This exquisite piece, an earlier 19th century American Federal relic, comes from the estate of an old Massachusetts Brahmin family (elite members of Boston’s traditional old upper class). The is finely crafted and detailed. The piece features refined and yet primitive naive design and construction. One single beautiful slab of wonderfully-colored burl walnut forms the base of the tray. The sides are formed with approx. 1/2″ inlaid burl walnut pieces in contrasting grains. The elegant piece was no doubt used in a fancy parlor to serve apéritif or used to display a delicate vase or object. The tray presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with very minor epected wear and patina commensurate with age. There are a few age-related (and hard to notice) stable fractures between some inlaid side pieces. Add old and charming primitive American style to any interior with this elegant burl tray…Fresh to the market!
